Jayapura, Papua (ANTARA) - The Indonesia Archery Association (Perpani) has devised a plan to ensure continued utilization of the Kampung Harapan field hosting the PON XX National Games' archery match after the Games conclude next week.

"We have conceived a plan for continued utilization of the field after the PON XX, and we are expecting the association's regional branch to follow up with the plan," Secretary General of Perpani Nyak Amir stated in Jayapura, Tuesday.

Planned utilization of the archery field as a training and match venue is part of the plan, Amir remarked.

Perpani has instructed its regional branch to follow up on the plan by coordinating with the central and regional authorities for establishing a sports education and training centre for students.

"The sport education and training centre might be established under the Papua Province Youth and Sports Office's jurisdiction or under direct funding and control of the Youth and Sports Ministry," Amir stated.

The archery association proposed their Papua branch and the Papua authority to collaborate with the faculty of sports of the Jayapura's Cenderawasih University to establish a sports education and training centre for university students.

The establishment of a sports education and training centre aligns with the authority's mission to nurture potential archery athletes from the province, he noted.

"We should utilize this momentum to promote archery among university students and establish the sports education and training centre," Amir affirmed.

Perpani also urged their regional branch to propose drafting of a regulation to allow the association to operate the Kampung Harapan field under the supervision of the Papua government.

"If these steps are not taken, we are afraid the field would be neglected or disused. We are also concerned about the high maintenance costs, particularly related to its sanitary, electricity, and other aspects," Amir pointed out.
