Palangka Raya, Central Kaliman (ANTARA) - The Palangka Raya Education Office, Central Kalimantan Province, will make requisite arrangements to implement an anti-bullying program across all schools in that region.

"The Education Office is ready to implement an anti-bullying program across education units in Palangka Raya City, including through expediting the dissemination of information in schools," Head of the Palangka Raya City Education Office Akhmad Fauliansyah stated on Friday.

The dissemination of information was a follow-up to the Anti Bullying Program's Focus Group Discussion in Yogyakarta that was conducted online and offline.

Fauliansyah stated that the anti-bullying program to be implemented was the result of collaboration among the Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry and UNICEF Indonesia and partners in a bid to prevent bullying and school-based violence.

"Currently, the world of education is changing rapidly with various patterns. Let us create a good environment in the school, including through preventing actions that are unpleasant to others, such as bullying," he affirmed.

According to cerdasberkarakter.kemdikbud.go.id/merdekadariperundungan, 15-year-old students in Indonesia have experienced bullying at least several times a month.

In addition, girls and boys in the age bracket of 13-17 years in Indonesia have experienced at least one form of violence in their life.

To address this issue, "Roots Indonesia" was conducted. It is a school-based bullying and violence prevention program implemented in more than 1,800 junior and senior high schools and vocational schools. The program was the result of collaboration of the Education and Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry along with UNICEF Indonesia and partners.

The "Roots Indonesia," or anti-bullying program, will involve students as the agents of change and teachers as the facilitators.

Some 30 students will be selected from each school to be the agents of change, and they will spread and instill the values of kindness and non-violence in schools.

The teacher, as the facilitator, aims to facilitate discussions with the agents of change during the weekly "Roots" meeting. The facilitator will also help students to report and follow up on reports of bullying or violence in schools.
