Malang, E Java (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno has asked business actors across Indonesia to innovate for developing the potential of the creative economy.

While visiting Malang city in East Java on Saturday, he said that his ministry has been committed and consistent in providing support related to the development of the tourism sector and the creative economy through various programs.

"Innovation is needed. (Business actors in) Districts and cities are encouraged to be creative so they can make innovations," Uno remarked.

Innovation is one of the keys to advancing creative economy businesses, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), in all regions of Indonesia, the minister explained.

According to Uno, innovation can help business actors to strengthen their competitiveness. Innovations must also take advantage of technology, such as the use of digital data, he added.

"Innovation will help us to be competitive. Innovate by using data and by using digital technology," the minister said.

Aside from innovation, it is essential for business actors to adapt, he added. Currently, the COVID-19 pandemic is still on, therefore, business actors must adapt so that the creative economy can continue to develop, he expounded.

Minister Uno said that his ministry has formulated the Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environment Sustainability (CHSE) protocols, which are among the guidelines for tourism business actors and creative economy players to adapt in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Other than that, collaboration between business actors is needed to expand networks and open up potential opportunities for cooperation between them, he said.

"I believe that by gathering here, we will encourage the rise of the creative economy in Indonesia," the minister remarked.
