"The important thing is to work a lot because of the ever-developing condition of Yogyakarta city (culture), thus it requires hard work from all parties so that culture in Yogyakarta remains sustainable," he remarked in Yogyakarta on Tuesday.
The synergy between the Yogyakarta city government and the Cultural Council must be well-established so that various programs and activities that will later be run can support each other so that the results are optimal, he said.
Preserving culture presents its own serious challenges, such as adapting to the ever-changing era and the rapid development of science and technology, he added.
“Like it or not, the development of technology and science will have an impact on efforts to preserve culture. This challenge must be faced so that culture remains sustainable,” he remarked.

He said he expected the Yogyakarta City Cultural Council to create innovative policies without delay which could contribute or support cultural preservation.
The mayor also mentioned another important role of the council: providing curatorial services to cultural groups or objects with assistance from the local government.
The recently designated chairman of the Yogyakarta City Cultural Council, Ki Priyo Dwiarso, cited the ongoing pandemic as one of the challenges to preserving culture.
"Development of regional culture is met with difficulties, but this is a task that we must be able to do in our best ability possible," he remarked.
He deemed the preservation of regional culture important given its impact on the national culture of a country.
“Developed countries are always strong by maintaining their culture. Culture should not be (eroded by time)," Dwiarso added.
