Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati has called on her side at the Ministry of Finance to increase efforts to edify the public, especially the younger generation, on the State Budget.

"I am amazed that junior high and high school students now have high levels of enthusiasm and curiosity to know about this country's financial instrument,” the minister noted during the 2021 State Budget Olympiad here, Friday.

Indrawati remarked that the State Budget Olympiad, held annually and into its fourth year, is a form of her ministry’s hard work to disseminate information about the state budget to the public.

According to the minister, junior high and high school students welcomed the Olympiad wholeheartedly. This was apparent from initially only hundreds of teams to now thousands of teams participating in the event.

Indrawati echoed the Finance Ministry's keenness to make breakthroughs and other innovations to inspire the younger generation to explore the state budget.

The minister also requested Director General of Budget at the Ministry of Finance, Isa Rachmatawarta, and Head of the Financial Education and Training Agency (BPPK), Andin Hadiyanto, to modify the concept of the State Budget Olympiad to be held akin to a music talent show on television.

Indrawati assessed that by applying such concepts, the event could further encourage a healthy competitive spirit among members of the younger generation in exploring more details about the State Budget.

She believed that by innovating in holding championships that apply exciting concepts, the younger generation could gain a broader understanding that the state budget is the community's right, and hence used for the community.
