Youth Science Week is expected to provide a platform for Indonesian teenagers to inspire Indonesian youths by infusing a spirit of research and innovation in them.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has invited teenagers to innovate at the Youth Science Week 2021, themed "Trust Instinct with Research and Technology," held virtually on October 25-28, 2021.

"Youth Science Week is expected to provide a platform for Indonesian teenagers to inspire Indonesian youths by infusing a spirit of research and innovation in them," BRIN's official, Edy Giri Rachman Putra, noted in a written statement here on Tuesday.

The Youth Science Week features the 53th Teenager Science Scientific Work Competition (LKIR) and the 14th National Young Inventor Awards (NYIA).

The Inspiration Days activity that hosts speakers to inspire the younger generation to conduct research and innovation is also being held.

The 53th LKIR displays 54 research projects in four scientific branches that have undergone a three-month-long mentoring process and will be presented to judges.

Meanwhile, 49 teenage innovation projects will compete at the 14th National Young Inventors Award wherein the winners will have the opportunity to participate in the international science competition.

These science competitions are held annually by the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) that had been integrated to become part of BRIN.

These competitions aim to provide an opportunity, so that the younger generation's research and innovation ideas can be mentored by competent researchers.

These ideas could lead to potential innovation research content and may have intellectual property value that can be developed.

According to Putra, scientific education for the younger generation is important to ensure the development of science and technology in future, as Indonesia will enter the demographic bonus era in 2030.

During this demographic bonus era, the number of people in the productive age group will surpass those from the non-productive age, he stated.

To this end, it is important to prepare a quality younger generation with competitiveness that could realize the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, he affirmed.
