Indonesia's progress is real and has been acknowledged by many parties. Thus, we are not making it up nor praising ourselvesJakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia has shown significant progress in mitigating the impact of climate change, Environment and Forestry Minister Siti Nurbaya Bakar has said.
She delivered the statement while accompanying President Joko Widodo to the Conference of Parties (COP) 26 World Leaders Summit in Glasgow, Scotland on Monday (local time).
"Indonesia's progress is real and has been acknowledged by many parties. Thus, we are not making it up nor praising ourselves," she remarked in a press release received here on Tuesday.
Furthermore, she informed that the United Kingdom’s Presidency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Glasgow this year is striving to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

Still, the results depend on the preparedness of each country, she opined.
"Actually, Indonesia expects to achieve the target by 2060. However, as much as possible, we will try to make it happen earlier by calculating the target realization in the energy, industry, and waste management sectors," the minister informed.
Furthermore, she emphasized that sustainability is a crucial factor for implementing the climate change agenda and the nationally determined contributions (NDC).

According to Bakar, a country cannot just set the target numbers and stop working when they have been achieved.
"We have to keep calculating the progress and overseeing the real implementation of the policies and how they can be accelerated,” she explained.
At COP26, Indonesia expressed full support for the United Kingdom's Presidency, which is emphasizing limiting the increase in global temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius, she said.

President Joko Widodo has reaffirmed that Indonesia will be committed to doing its best, she noted.
Hence, the government will continue to monitor the development of the Earth's temperature through the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency’s data to continue to improve its policies, Bakar added.
