Jakarta (ANTARA) - House of Representatives member Arteria Dahlan has said that revisions to Law No. 16 of 2004 concerning the Prosecutor's Office of Indonesia can optimize the prosecution system and institution in the country.

"Indonesia must make regulatory improvements. Through the revision of the prosecutor's office law, it is expected that the strengthening of this system and institutions can be very optimal," Dahlan remarked in a podcast streamed on the Indonesian Prosecutor's Office YouTube channel here on Wednesday.

Thus, the revisions will firmly declare the authority of the Indonesian Prosecutor's Office, such as the principle of dominus litis, where a case prosecutor can realize the ideals of just law enforcement in the country, he said.

When prosecutors' authority is increased, there will be other positive impacts. One of them is the obligation for the Prosecutor's Office to bring forth great prosecutors, he pointed out.

According to Dahlan, a great prosecutor performs the duty and function of ensuring fair law enforcement for the people of Indonesia, on behalf of the Republic of Indonesia.

"If the authority has been added, great prosecutors must also exist. Not only do they have the capacity and competence, but they know they are Indonesian prosecutors who serve for good," he said.

To emerge as a great prosecutor, maximum coaching and career path clarity are necessary, Dahlan pointed out.

The policies of mutation, demotion, and shift to lower position can be realized if the regulatory system in the prosecutor law is improved, he added.

He also said that the revision of the prosecutor law is one of the right solutions for improving legal development in Indonesia.

Revisions to the prosecutor's office law are still in process under the House's initiative, which is considering suggestions from several related parties, such as the Prosecutor's Office Commission, he added.

In general, the revision will improve the duties and authority of the Prosecutor's Office in enforcing justice in Indonesia, he remarked.
