Jakarta (ANTARA) - Dengue fever data from the Health Ministry has shown a drop in dengue cases to 37,646 as of October or the 43th week of 2021 from 108,303 cases in 2020.

According to the data from the ministry's Zoonotic and Vector Disease Prevention and Handling Directorate here on Friday, the number of deaths due to dengue fever has also declined in 2021.

The number of fatalities until the 43th week of 2021 was 361 compared to 747 in 2020.

Observing the spread data, dengue fever cases emerged in Java, Sumatra, and Nusa Tenggara in 2020. Meanwhile, in 2021, dengue fever was also detected in Kalimantan and Sulawesi.

On average, most infections were recorded in the 15-44 age bracket (31.54 percent), followed by the 5-14 age bracket (0.46 percent), people aged over 44 years (24.73 percent), children aged 1-4 (10.68 percent), and children aged under one (2.60 percent).

Meanwhile, the five districts or cities with the highest dengue fever cases in Indonesia are all located in West Java: Depok with 2,235 cases, Bandung city 1,895 cases, Bekasi 1,791 cases, Bandung district 947 cases, and Bogor 797 cases.

The Health Ministry has carried out dengue prevention and handling activity by implementing the '1 house 1 Jumantik' (larvae observer) movement.

The movement was implemented in 154 districts/cities with the help of 6,122 Jumantik coordinators, 4,498 Jumantik supervisors, and 1,047 Jumantik harbor cadres.

Dengue fever can be prevented by eradicating mosquito nests by cleaning up the surroundings around the house, draining water, and throwing away unused items, officials said.

In addition, prevention can also be done by planting mosquito-repellent plants and applying anti-mosquito lotion, they added.
