Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - The Batam Development Board (BP Batam) has asked the Consulate General of Indonesia in Dubai to help United Arab Emirates-based company Thumbay Group realize its plan to invest in the Sekupang Special Economic Zone, Batam.

"We hope the Consul General could take follow-up actions from our recent meeting with Thumbay Group management and assist the company's investment in Batam," BP Batam Chairperson Muhammad Rudi said in a written statement received in Batam on Saturday.

Earlier, Rudi met with the Indonesian Consul General in Dubai, Kartika Candra Negara, to discuss the progress of investment from Dubai to Batam. The meeting with the consul general was conducted after Rudi met the president director of Thumbay Group and visited the 2020 Dubai Expo.

"The technical team will continue their work by coordinating with the Consulate General to assist Dubai companies' investment plan in Batam," Rudi, who is currently serving as Mayor of Batam, informed.

During the meeting with Candra Negara, Rudi said he also enquired about work opportunities in Dubai for Batam residents who have completed hotel and tourism studies.

"The Consul General stated that the first prerequisite is English language ability, and I will discuss this matter with relevant authorities upon my return to Batam. We hope we could send our students, who have completed their education to Batam, to work in Dubai," the mayor added.

Meanwhile, BP Batam public relations, promotion, and protocol bureau head, Ariastuty Sirait, said she was convinced Rudi's visit to Dubai would benefit Batam's development in the future.

"We highlighted three aspects on our visit, those being port development; preparation of the special health economic zone; and hotel and tourism human resources. The chairperson also looks forward to the Consul General's notification if more investors express their interest to invest in Batam," Sirait added.
