The Finance Ministry Teaches programme has taught pupils about the duties of the Finance Ministry, and I have seen that pupils from the primary to high schools have understood the functions of the state budget and finance
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati lauded the Finance Ministry Teaches programme, being held for the sixth time, for successfully increasing knowledge on the state budget and finance among Indonesian pupils.

"The Finance Ministry Teaches programme has taught pupils about the duties of the Finance Ministry, and I have seen that pupils from the primary to high schools have understood the functions of the state budget and finance," Minister Indrawati stated during the Finance Minister Teaches programme here on Tuesday.

Knowledge on state finance in the national development must be nurtured among Indonesian pupils, as they are the nation's future generation, and the ministry should partake in efforts to develop a study-loving, educated youth generation, the minister affirmed.

"We must continue our teaching programme, as the state finances in future would be managed by the next generation. If our youth is able to comprehend the state finance and budget, I am convinced our future would be better," she remarked.

Secretary General of the Finance Ministry Heru Pambudi informed that 2,320 volunteers, including 66 officers from various echelons among the 1,767 teacher volunteers, 186 photographers, 21 videographers, and 346 facilitators, are involved in the programme.

A total of 342 schools -- 124 primary schools, 103 junior high schools, 106 senior high schools, 10 Indonesian schools overseas, and two special schools -- participate in the programme, he noted.

The programme commenced with teachers presenting stories to instill knowledge on the public policy, especially financial and education policies, and the volunteers would then teach financial management and introduce the Finance Ministry's duty to the pupils, Pambudi expounded.

The secretary general expressed optimism that the pupils would comprehend the basics of the state budget and their role in Indonesia's development.

Meanwhile, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim encouraged pupils to continue their studies and utilise opportunities provided by the ministry's programme for their self-development.

"I believe our pupils have talent in music or sports, and I am convinced that they have a dream to become an achiever on the international stage," Makarim stated.
