The event involves more than 250 athletes from 26 countries.
Nusa Dua, Bali (ANTARA) - Some 930 joint personnel of the military, police, and National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) were deployed to maintain security and enforce health protocols at the 2021 Indonesia Badminton Festival (IBF) in Nusa Dua, Bali.

The 2021 Indonesia Badminton Festival features the three tournaments of Indonesia Masters, Indonesia Open, and BWF World Tour Finals scheduled from November 16 to December 5, 2021.

Head of Public’s Behavior Change of the National COVID-19 Handling Task Force, Sonny Harry B. Harmadi, stated at a press conference here on Saturday that the personnel were assigned to three layers of the "bubble scheme" of the event.

"Some 30 personnel are deployed for the first layer that is located at the lodging, comprising five BNPB officers and 25 hotel security officers," he stated.

Meanwhile, 900 joint security personnel of the Bali Regional Police and the Udayana Regional Military Command have been deployed for the second and third layers, stretching along the route from the airport to the lodging.

The division head noted that supervision of the two layers aims to ensure that no athletes, coaches, officials, or technical support team can leave the "bubble" area.

In addition to conducting strict supervision, the task force has set special procedures to be implemented for the first time in Indonesia for the "bubble scheme."

One of the procedures is conducting six PCR tests for all participants of the tournaments.

The tests are conducted upon their arrival in Indonesia, during isolation, before the Indonesia Masters, ahead of Indonesia Open, prior to the BWF Tour Finals, and before returning home.

"Since it is the first and biggest international tournament held by Indonesia amid the pandemic, we establish such detailed and strict rules. In addition, the event involves more than 250 athletes from 26 countries," Harmadi added.
