Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - Karimun District in Riau Islands Province had zero active cases of COVID-19, in addition to Anambas and Lingga Islands, the Riau Islands COVID-19 Task Force said.

The task force's spokesperson, Tjetjep Yudiana, said here on Sunday that the active cases in Karimun was zero after a COVID-19 patient had recovered.

Out of the three districts having no active cases, only Lingga has been granted the green zone tag from COVID-19 Task Force. On the other hand, Anambas must keep its status for the next 2.5 weeks before it could be granted the green tag.

The Task Force considers an area having green tag if there are no active cases of COVID-19 for four weeks.

"Hopefully other regions will follow the three districts," he said.

Yudiana revealed that there are only six active cases in Riau Islands, consisting of two people in Batam and Tanjungpinang respectively, and one each in Natuna and Bintan.

"No region has active cases exceeding five. This is a good achievement. We praise and thank all parties who consistently apply health protocols and work together to make the mass vaccination program successful," he remarked.

He cited data from November 20, 2021, that there were no daily fresh cases in Riau Islands. The data also showed no daily deaths of COVID-19 patients .

The total number of COVID-19 patients in Riau Islands since the pandemic began until now has reached 53,869, comprising 25,921 in Batam, 10,228 in Tanjungpinang, 5,583 in Bintan, 5,486 in Karimun, 1,846 in Anambas, 2,310 in Lingga, and 2,495 in Natuna.

The total number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 has far reached 52,105 people, comprising 25,078 in Batam, 9,824 in Tanjungpinang, 5,402 in Bintan, 5,325 in Karimun, 1,798 in Anambas, 2,225 in Lingga, and 2,453in Natuna.

The region's death toll is pegged at 1,758 people, comprising 841 in Batam, 402 in Tanjungpinang, 180 in Bintan, 161 in Karimun, 47 in Anambas, 85 in Lingga, and 42 in Natuna.
