Jakarta (ANTARA) - The registration process for International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) was disrupted after a blaze at a data center led to its shutdown here on Thursday, Dec 2, according to the Communication and Informatics Ministry.

"The disruption to the CEIR Data Center also affected the IMEI service," the ministry's spokesperson, Dedy Permadi, told ANTARA here on Friday.

The fire that broke out in the Cyber 1 Building, South Jakarta, on Thursday (Dec 2) at 12:30 p.m. local time disrupted operations at the data center or server that manages the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR).

The data center was shut down, resulting in the IMEI identification process through CEIR being hindered.

The shutdown caused a breakdown in the IMEI registration process in several devices, such as mobile phones, handheld computers, and tablets, which passengers carry and those on shipments.

The IMEI registration for carried and shipped mobile devices was conducted through the Directorate General of Customs and Excise at the Ministry of Finance.

These problems in the IMEI registration process also affected mobile devices belonging to state guests, VIP, and VVIP figures, which was conducted through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Foreign tourists that registered their IMEI numbers through the mobile telecommunication network organizers were also affected by the disruption caused to the operations of data centers.

The Ministry of Communication and Informatics also announced that the process of replacing the new SIM card for mobile telecommunication networks was also interrupted.

Meanwhile, operations of the Ministry of Industry were affected when obstacles were encountered in registering the IMEI Production Registration Mark (TPP) and the activation of new mobile devices at sales outlets.

According to Permadi, the aforementioned processes could not be conducted as usual until the post-fire recovery process in Cyber Building 1 was completed.

"We are still awaiting the newest update from the Cyber 1 building management as well as the manager of the CEIR Data Center to decide on any further step that is necessary," he explained.

The fire that broke out at the Cyber 1 building, allegedly due to a short circuit, claimed the lives of two visitors.
