Bandung (ANTARA) - Bandung Mayor Oded M. Danial expressed concern over acts of rape committed by a teacher on 12 female students in Bandung, West Java.

Danial condemned the actions of the teacher, identified by his initials as HW, 36. The mayor expects a fair decision to be reached through the judicial process.

"I was shocked to hear the news. Hopefully, the judges would give a verdict that offers a sense of justice to the rape victims and their families," the mayor noted in Bandung, West Java, on Thursday.

Danial opined that a teacher must be a role model for his students.

The perpetrator, HW, is sentenced to 20 years in prison. The Prosecutor's Office affirmed that HW had committed such acts from 2016 to early 2021.

Acting assistant for general crimes at the West Java Prosecutor's Office, Riyono, stated that HW was then a defendant, as he had undergone a trial process. The defendant was charged under Article 81 of the Child Protection Law.

"The sentence is (supposedly) 15 years, but there is more to it, given that the perpetrator is an educator. (Hence), the sentence (becomes) 20 years," Riyono emphasized.

Head of the legal information section at West Java's High Prosecutor's Office, Dodi Gazali, remarked that the teacher committed the criminal acts at various places. HW is suspected of using coercion along with threats of violence and allegedly luring the victims with gifts.
