I hope that the Mother's Day commemoration would be a reminder for us all, both the stakeholders and the public, that women have a high standing that contribute in developing the nation that we love.
Sleman, Yogyakarta (ANTARA) - Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Minister Bintang Puspayoga underscored that the commemoration of Mother's Day on December 22 is a moment for celebrating women's movement.

Puspayoga noted that for this year, the ministry had striven to promote the perspective that Mother's Day commemoration in Indonesia is not just about mothers, but rather, it is about commemorating the struggle of women's movement on December 22, 1928, in Ndalem Joyodipuran, Yogyakarta.

That place was the location where 30 organizations, comprising around one thousand women, had gathered to fight for their rights, the minister noted at a press conference here, Tuesday evening.

The press conference was attended by three witness representatives from the organizations namely Aisyiyah (women's wing of Islamic organization Muhammadiyah), a catholic women's organization, and Taman Siswa (an educational organization).

The main theme for the Mother's Day commemoration is "Women Empowered, Indonesia Advanced."

However, the sub-theme in 2021 is "Women resilient during the pandemic, women should be courageous in speaking up and women should be innovative, and dare to be agents of change."

Puspayoga expects that the commemoration of Mother's Day in Indonesia will be associated with the struggle of women's movement.

"I hope that the Mother's Day commemoration would be a reminder for us all, both the stakeholders and the public, that women have a high standing that contribute in developing the nation that we love," she affirmed.

The eve of Mother's Day commemoration is held on Wednesday at the Mandala Bhakti Wanitama Building, Sleman, Yogyakarta.

At the event, the minister will bestow award for the institution leader, who is committed to realizing Gender Equality, Women's Empowerment, and Child Protection.

In addition, she will confer the "Resilient Woman amid the COVID-19 Pandemic" Award.

Thereafter, Puspayoga will flag off a Women G20 Empower activity during the G20 Presidency.
