Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communications and Informatics Ministry has confirmed its plans to establish a task force for public communications in Papua.

Communications and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate, at the coordination meeting for the establishment of the Papua's Public Communications Task Force, explained that President Joko Widodo had directly appointed Vice President K.H. Ma'ruf Amin to accelerate economic improvement for the Papuan people.

"The coordinating minister for political, legal and security affairs has reported to the vice president and participants that we are setting up a Communications Task Force, but this Task Force must be diplomatic," the minister stated in a statement here on Wednesday.

Plate noted that the government has also enhanced coordination in public communication, so that policy changes could be well understood both at home and abroad. The minister noted that the policy change was accompanied by a modification to communication for altering the public's perception.

The minister noted that several policies and developments had taken place in Papua, though not being able to improve the economy of the community. Hence, coordination and communication had to be strengthened.

Minister Plate believes it is time to optimize the use of communication channels and media.

Meanwhile, Plate noted that the diplomatic approach he sought was related to communication diplomacy involving all important decision makers.

"The communication must be diplomatic and involve all important decision makers. I hope the content would not only be released by the ministry, but the most important aspect is that these diplomatic efforts provide an overview of major changes in attitudes and policies that are in favor of the Papuan people," Plate noted.

To this end, the minister pressed for solid teamwork to convey the substance of the message that was accurate and well-orchestrated.

"We form a team that is really solid and can convey the accurate substance. We must make the right plan, so that it reaches the target. Hence, we form a Task Force. We can even ensure legal protection," Plate noted.

The aim is that the policies and president's call can run well through the use of communication and information channels that are managed together. In addition, public communication will become more effective.

The minister called for involvement from all parties, including the government, observers, academics, and technical officers in Papua.

Apart from using channels and the synchronization of information, orchestration of communication also requires mutual commitment and support, especially to develop a common agenda and to share roles and tasks.
