Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has sent a presidential letter on Second Amendment of Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) to the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD stated.

"The letter has been signed by the president and sent to the DPR RI on December 16, 2021," Mahfud said in a statement here on Friday.

The Presidential Letter Numbered R-58/Pres/12/202 concerning the Bill on the Second Amendment to Law No. 11/2008 on ITE attached a document of the draft bill.

In the letter, in addition to submitting the bill, Jokowi also expressed optimism that the DPR would promptly discuss the draft bill in its session and give top priority to its approval.

The President's letter mentioned that for discussing the bill, Jokowi had assigned the communication and informatics minister as well as the law and human rights minister to represent the government in discussing the bill.

The government will revise the ITE Law on a limited basis with regard to the substance. Four articles -- 27, 28, 29, and 36 -- will be revised.

In addition to the revision of the four articles, the government has proposed a new article -- Article 45C -- in the revision of the ITE Law, according to Mahfud.
