Jakarta (ANTARA) - A joint task force relocated a COVID-19 positive patient infected with the Omicron variant at Green Bay Condominium Pluit to Sulianti Saroso Infectious Disease Hospital (RSPI SS), Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, on Tuesday.

Head of the Penjaringan Police Station Adjunct Police Commissioner (AKBP) Febri Isman Jaya noted that the transfer process conducted by the joint task force from the National Police (Polri), Indonesia Defense Forces (TNI), and North Jakarta City Government aimed to track the transmission of COVID-19.

"This patient's transfer is still in the tracking stage. We need to evacuate the patient to avoid larger transmission," he emphasized.

However, the police did not disclose information regarding the residents, who were transferred to RSPI SS, although it is known that he lived at the Green Bay Condo Pluit with his wife. The evacuation process for the duo was conducted one by one in line with the procedures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

"Hence, the patient lives with his wife on the 7th floor. Along with the COVID-19 task force and the doctor from the public health center (Puskesmas), we have persuaded them to get treated at RSPI Sulianti Saroso," Jaya explained.

The Ministry of Health had earlier detected the first local transmission case of the new variant of COVID-19 called Omicron in the country in a domestic traveler from Medan to Jakarta.

Director of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health Siti Nadia Tarmizi said the 37-year-old man traveled from Medan and arrived in Jakarta on December 6, 2021.

Two weeks later when he was returning to Medan, the result of his antigen test showed a positive result.

The positive result also appeared when he was retested by the PCR method a day later.

"Based on the laboratory result on December 26, 2021, it was confirmed that the patient was exposed to the Omicron variant," Tarmizi, concurrently serving as spokesperson for COVID-19 Vaccination, noted.
