Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's G20 Presidency is expected to aid national tourism recovery this year, especially in Bali, which is set to host the summit meeting of the grouping, an observer has said.

"Bali will host the G20 (summit); this is a big hope," senior associate director of Research Colliers Indonesia, Ferry Salanto, said here on Wednesday.

Compared to 2020, Bali's condition has started to improve, with domestic tourists still dominating visitor arrivals on the island, he noted.

Many MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) activities have been held in Bali, and the government has held several events intended to stimulate tourism in the area, he added.

During the preparations for the G20 Summit, the arrival of international guests would increase and so will the occupancy rate in hotels in a number of cities, including Jakarta, he said.

A study conducted by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, in cooperation with the University of Indonesia, has stated that the G20 forum under Indonesia could potentially create jobs for 33 thousand people, he noted.

The summit could potentially raise national GDP (gross domestic product) to Rp7.43 trillion and its other economic benefits are expected to be 1.5 times higher than those generated by the 2018 IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting in Bali.

Indonesia took over the G20 Presidency during the G20 Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in November 2020.

It will hold the Presidency, themed "Recover Together, Recover Stronger" to reflect the spirit of collective recovery, from December 1, 2021, till November 2022.

The Group of 20 or G20 is an international forum that brings together the world's major economies. Its members account for more than 80 percent of the global GDP, 75 percent of global trade, and 60 percent of the population on the planet.

The G20 members comprise Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, India, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Russia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Turkey, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union. Spain is a permanent guest invitee to the grouping's meetings.
