Jakarta (ANTARA) - The West Jakarta city government has set a target to administer the booster shots to as many as 200 residents in each sub-district from this Wednesday.

"The booster shots have started to be offered today in all sub-districts. The target is 200 (people) per sub-district for today," Acting Head of the West Jakarta Health Office Sub-department, Yudi Dimyati, stated here.

Dimyati noted that the vaccination program on Wednesday will be evaluated by the Health Office Sub-department.

The evaluation results will serve as a reference, so that subsequent vaccination activities could run smoothly.

He ensured that each sub-district had sufficient vaccine stocks to dispel any concerns among people, especially the elderly.

In the event of the sub-district's vaccine stocks running out, Dimyati said his administration would inquire from the Jakarta Provincial Health Office to send more vaccine doses.

Dimyati's administration plans to increase the number of vaccination sites, so that elderly people could have easier access to them.

The Jakarta provincial government had readied all public health centers to offer the third vaccination dose, starting Wednesday, prioritizing the elderly as the foremost recipients.

The booster vaccine was given to the public following the government's policy to make the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine free for all citizens.

Recently, President Joko Widodo announced the mechanism of booster vaccines that will kick off on Wednesday to counter the virus that continuously creates new mutations.

The president confirmed that it was free for everyone and detailed several brands used for the program, such as Sinovac or Coronavac, Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and ZIficav.

Some requirements should be met before taking the extra dose, such as having received the second dose of vaccine at least six months before.
