Jakarta (ANTARA) - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno highlighted the need for a balance between human resources and infrastructure development in the surrounding area of the 2022 MotoGP event in Mandalika, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

“We will provide training to human resources in this village from the Lombok Tourism Polytechnic,” he noted while reviewing the construction of the 2022 MotoGP-supporting infrastructure in Mong Village, Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, on Wednesday.

In his press statement quoted here on Thursday, the minister conveyed that the local residents had requested for additional housing and facilities to be provided since the number of people arriving during the MotoGP event, scheduled on March 18-20, 2022, is forecast to reach 100 thousand.

According to Uno, President Joko Widodo had urged Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono to prioritize the construction of tourism housing facilities.

The tourism and creative economy minister had conducted a review of the residential houses in Mong Village, as the number of accommodations available in Lombok had only reached 23 thousand, with an additional 400 units of tourism housing facilities.

"This is one of the issues that should be solved ahead of the MotoGP event," he noted.

As an alternative, he suggested that visitors be directed to stay in homestays, cabins or glamping, and cruises, or floating hotels on cruise ships.

In addition, he affirmed that the local community would also be trained under the endeavor to develop human resources in order to create employment opportunities.

"This is in accordance with the requests of the community for us to prepare well. This is what is called understanding the community's needs, so that this MotoGP event will directly support not only economic revival but also job creation," he remarked.
