Gunungsitoli, N Sumatra (ANTARA) - A fire razed seven homes in Gunungsitoli City of North Sumatra Province on Thursday morning, causing material losses of up to Rp4 billion.

Police received a report about the fire on Patimura Street at 3 a.m. local time and sent personnel to the scene immediately, chief of the Nias City Police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Wawan Iriawan, said.

Shortly after arriving on the scene, police personnel helped firefighters extinguish the blaze, he added.

At least three fire trucks and two water tankers were deployed to put out the fire.

"Thanks to assistance from many parties, the fire that devastated seven homes was put out by 5 p.m.," he said.

No fatalities were reported in the fire, he added.

However, one local resident, identified as Djumanto, sustained burns and another resident, identified as Fitri, was injured by broken glass, chief of the public service and fire control section of the Gunungsitoli Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
