Pandeglang, Banten (ANTARA) - Banten Regional Police Chief Inspector General Rudy Heriyanto distributed aid to victims of the 6.6 magnitude (M) earthquake in Pandeglang District, Banten Province, on Saturday.

"The basic necessities are distributed directly to residents affected by the disaster in Kertamukti Village, Sumur Sub-district, Pandeglang District, Banten Province," he remarked.

On the occasion, the regional police chief and his entourage visited the public kitchen prepared by the Mobile Brigade Corps of the regional police.

"We directly reviewed the availability of health services and public facilities, as well as the condition of some locations affected by the earthquake, such as the Kertamukti 2 Elementary School, Kertamukti Village, Sumur Sub-district, Pandeglang District," he stated.

After visiting the public kitchen, he interacted with the residents.

"Hopefully, the provided assistance can be useful for the residents," he remarked.

Heriyanto noted that the aid is a form of the regional police's social awareness and attention to the people affected by the disaster.

"We are optimistic that the aid would ease their economic burden," he remarked.

The police chief expects the deployment of police officers for the community to support post-disaster activities.

In addition, Heriyanto is upbeat about no subsequent disasters occurring.

"We appeal to the public to stay calm and be careful. Currently, the situation is safe and conducive," he added.

Meanwhile, 70-year-old local resident, Kusniah, expressed her happiness on receiving assistance.

"Thank you, the Banten Regional Police Chief, for paying attention to us, who were affected by the earthquake. This assistance helps us a lot," she stated.

The 6.6 M earthquake hit Sumur Sub-district, Pandeglang District, Banten Province, on Friday, January 14, 2022, at 4:05 p.m. Western Indonesian Standard Time (WIB).

It was centered at 132 kilometers (km) southwest of Pandeglang District, Banten Province, at a depth of 40 km.
