Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coronavirus infections have been detected in 11 schools in Jakarta so far, but none of them have involved the Omicron variant, Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, has informed.

"To date, 11 schools have been exposed to COVID-19, but not the Omicron variant. Once again, not Omicron," he stressed while attending a blood donation drive here on Saturday.

According to Patria, a total of 14 students and teachers in the 11 schools have contracted COVID-19.

Therefore, the government has halted the implementation of face-to-face learning at the 11 schools for five days, he informed.

Meanwhile, other schools in the capital will still conduct offline learning with full capacity, he added.

In Jakarta, 10,429 schools ranging from kindergartens to high schools have implemented 100-percent face-to-face learning.

Due to the low number of schools being exposed to the virus, the Jakarta government has decided to continue the implementation of face-to-face learning, Patria explained.

In addition, Jakarta has also met the requirements for conducting face-to-face learning at full capacity in accordance with the ministerial decree, he said.

The ministerial decree regulates that only regions with Level 1 or 2 public activity restrictions (PPKM) can implement 100-percent face-to-face learning, he noted. Jakarta is currently at Level 1 PPKM, he added.

The second requirement is above 80 percent vaccination coverage among educators and students and 50 percent vaccination coverage among older adults, he noted.

"Meanwhile, in Jakarta, 89 percent of school staff, 91 percent of teachers, 79 percent of older adults, and 98 percent of students have been vaccinated. Thus, Jakarta is very qualified (to implement 100-percent face-to-face learning)," the deputy governor said.

The Indonesian government recently allowed schools to start face-to-face learning at 100-percent capacity through the issuance of the Four Ministries Joint Decree regarding the Guidelines for the Implementation of Learning during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
