Jakarta (ANTARA) - The COVID-19 pandemic has led universities to collaborate with one another to design interesting learning content for students, Indonesia Open University Rector, Prof. Ojat Darojat, has said.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has opened up opportunities for universities, schools, governments, and telecommunications companies to work together to bring engaging online learning and content to students," Darojat noted at the International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) Leadership Summit 2022 here on Friday.

During a panel discussion on how colleges are facing global crises, Darojat shared his experience of leading open and distance education amid the pandemic.

"The campus (Indonesia Open University) also tries to find the best solutions in maintaining the quality of higher-education distance learning that had been applied even before the pandemic," Darojat explained.

He further highlighted how Indonesia is protecting its people from the COVID-19 pandemic without stopping efforts to build human resources.

The COVID-19 pandemic has provided lessons on how to conduct successful distance learning without sacrificing quality, he said. It has provided a learning curve for colleges that were not used to organizing distance education, he added.

"We have also conducted an evaluation of online learning, multimedia content, and learning system management," he pointed out.

Interestingly, it revealed that students' literacy skills in reading, data, critical thinking, and collaborative competencies have improved, Darojat explained.

"Education must be agile, flexible, (based on) cyber-pedagogy, and innovative," he stressed.

The ICDE Leadership Summit 2022 is a platform for leaders of higher education institutions implementing open and distance learning to share their experiences. This year, the summit has been organized by Korea National Open University from January 20 to January 21, 2022.
