Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta's provincial government is expediting administration of the third vaccination dose, or booster shot, to ensure herd immunity during the Finance Track, one of the G20 events, in Jakarta, Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria stated.

"We expedite (administration of the) booster vaccine and bolster the monitoring," he noted at the Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.

The Jakarta provincial government will also increase penalty for parties found violating the health protocol regulation, he emphasized.

Patria remarked that his side welcomes the fact that Jakarta became a replacement host for one of the G20 agendas despite the surge in the number of cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 in the capital city.

This is because Jakarta's vaccination coverage for the first dose had reached 12.1 million, or 120 percent of the 10-million target, as of Tuesday, he noted.

Meanwhile, the vaccination percentage for the second dose stood at 9.75 million, or 96 percent, while the third dose coverage has reached 357,453 people.

"Various forms of support and infrastructure have been prepared to make the capital city ready, and Insya Allah (God willing) we are ready in terms of security," Patria noted.

Earlier, the Finance Ministry decided to change the venue for the G20's Finance Track meetings from Bali to Jakarta following the spread of COVID-19, primarily the Omicron variant.

The moved agendas concerned the meeting of central banks' deputies as well as the finance minister and central bank-level meeting that were initially to be held in Nusa Dua, Bali, on February 15-18, 2022.

Meanwhile, the daily count of positive cases in Jakarta had reached 2,190 until Tuesday. This figure comprised 1,829 imported cases involving international travelers and 361 non-international travelers.

In addition, the number of active positive cases stood at 12,199 comprising 1,900 cases of international travelers and 10,229 cases of local transmission.

The number of cases of the Omicron variant totalled 1,697 comprising 1,166 cases of international travelers and 531 cases of local transmission.
