We are optimistic that the assistance would be able to ease the fire victims' burdenJakarta (ANTARA) - Tambora Sub-district's police officers in West Jakarta offered food assistance to residents affected by a massive fire incident that scorched 26 semi-permanent houses on Tuesday afternoon.
"The social aid that we gave is a form of the police's care for the people. We are optimistic that the assistance would be able to ease the fire victims' burden," Tambora Police Commissioner Chief Faruk Rozi stated here on Wednesday.
The Tambora Police has distributed 10 boxes of mineral water, 10 boxes of instant noodles, and 200 additional food packs to residents evacuating at a temporary shelter built on Tanah Sereal Street, West Jakarta.

Rozi spoke of his team having checked the implementation of health protocols at the evacuation site, saying that its application had gone well. He also expressed optimism that the assistance distributed by Tambora Police had helped to meet the basic requirements of the fire victims.
Earlier, fires scorched and destroyed 26 semi-permanent houses in the tenth neighborhood unit (RT10) and tenth hamlet (RW10) of the Tanah Sereal area in Tambora Sub-district, West Jakarta, on Tuesday at around 4:57 p.m. local time, according to West Jakarta's Head of the Fire and Rescue Operations Section, Sjukri Bahanan.
Bahanan noted that the officers initially received information on the fires from a resident. Within minutes, five fire trucks headed to the scene to extinguish the fires.

Since the fires were huge due to the buildings being made of flammable materials, West Jakarta's Fire and Rescue squad added 19 fire trucks, and the personnel involved in putting out the fires reached 95 people.
Finally, the fire rescue officers succeeded in extinguishing the fires by deploying several fire trucks.
No deaths were reported, and the material losses were still being calculated. It was estimated that at least 69 families comprising 276 people became homeless due to the fire.
