Jakarta holds vast potential to become a global business city.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government should bolster legal assurance and digitalization, so it remains as a global-scale economic and business center after the capital city (IKN) is relocated to East Kalimantan, political observer Siti Zuhro stated.

"If Jakarta is keen to declare itself as a global city, it should ensure high competitiveness and legal assurance," Zuhro noted at the Jakarta City Hall on Thursday.

Zuhro, concurrently a researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), also encouraged domestic reformation to support Jakarta to become a global economic and business hub.

However, the observer believes that even without declaration, Jakarta has already become a barometer for economy and business.

In addition to law enforcement, digitalization should be expanded to support efficient bureaucracy in accordance with the paper titled "Jakarta's social political stability and bureaucracy professionalism as a global business city" that Zuhro presented.

To this end, Zuhro supports Jakarta's efforts to optimize digitalization.

The steps to drive digitalization encompass bolstering the government business process and public service based on information technology, honing the capabilities of state civil apparatuses to interact with IT, and ensuring data in decision-making by utilizing IT.

"Jakarta holds vast potential to become a global business city," she remarked.

Jakarta has potential human resources and economy supported by the city's capacity that, throughout this time, had been capable of making adaptive and quick bureaucratic changes.

The researcher supports efforts to boost law enforcement and digitalization since two factors hindered investment in Indonesia.

These factors comprise corruption and inefficient bureaucracy based on the World Economic Forum's (WEF's) 2019 report.

"We need to mention this in order to fix it. This has become the biggest hurdle for the Indonesian government to compete globally," she stated.

The Jakarta provincial government involves experts to provide inputs to make Indonesia one of the global economic and business centers after it would no longer be the capital city.
