This forum will become an important platform and serve as a basis for disaster mitigation policy decision-making.Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Global Platform For Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR), scheduled in Bali on May 23-28, 2022, will become an important event for disaster mitigation, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry's official stated.
"This forum will become an important platform and serve as a basis for disaster mitigation policy decision-making," the ministry's Geology Agency Head Eko Budi Lelono noted in a statement here on Wednesday.
This international forum aims to conduct monitoring and evaluation as well as gather details on various new trends in disaster handling to become the foundation to formulate disaster handling action plans for the next two years, he explained.
In addition to becoming a disaster risk reduction forum, the GPDRR will serve as a platform to promote Indonesia's tourism to the world amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We can promote disaster handling experiences and practices that have worked well in Indonesia," Lelono noted.
The government has agreed to hold the forum through a stringent face-to-face meeting and bubble system since the delegations will enter Indonesia.

On a separate occasion, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy remarked that the GPDRR is a multi-stakeholder forum routinely held once every two years.
The forum was initiated by the United Nations (UN) to discuss the disaster risk reduction issue.
He expects that the GPDRR to have a positive impact on humanitarian diplomacy as well as disaster risk reduction efforts in the world, especially pertaining to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The early preparation stage of the event began with reviewing several event locations at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center and Bali International Convention Center as well as a series of ministerial-level meetings.
The GPDRR 2022 will be attended by President Joko Widodo, the UN secretary-general, several elected heads of nations, and representatives from 193 member countries, with the number participants pegged at five thousand people.
