The G20 side events must also be a showcase of the positive image of progress and Indonesian culture
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Preparations have been made for G20 side events in February 2022 to support Indonesia's Presidency, push the priority agenda among member nations, and reinforce the nation's positive image, the Trade Minister has said.

"The side events aim to give G20 members a more complete understanding of the priority agenda of the G20 Presidency. The G20 side events must also be a showcase of the positive image of progress and Indonesian culture," Muhammad Lutfi, who is also the chief executive of the G20 side events, remarked in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.

He said he hoped that the implementation of the G20 side activities would boost Indonesia's efforts to restore the world economy.

"We are optimistic that the entire G20 side event agenda will have an important impact on the entire series of G20 meetings held in Indonesia this year," he added.

The side events that are scheduled to be held in February will include the education working group kickoff, high-level seminar on sustainable finance, discussion on green financing and energy transition mechanism, casual talks on digital payment innovation of banking, and a showcase on digital payments in Indonesia, he informed.

They will also feature casual talks on digital payment innovation by fintech, casual talks on managing the risk of exit policy dynamics through more diversified currency to support global trade and investment, a maiden speech by Klaas Knot as new FSB chair, and an international seminar on exit strategy and scarring effect, he said.

They will further include casual talks on scaling up the utilization of sustainable financial instruments, casual talks on the bank digitalization trend, G20 high-level discussion on exit strategy, QRIS excursion to tourism village, 'Wonderful Indonesia Rupiah' showcase, the opening ceremony of Youth 20, and Side Event I of the development working group, he added.

The Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ministry will use bamboos as the main material for revitalizing the venues and infrastructure for the G20 Summit in Bali, Deputy Minister of PUPR, John Wempi Wetipo, said earlier.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo said that he would invite the G20 delegates to visit the mangrove conservation area in Bali during the summit.

"To maintain the mangroves, we will mostly use bamboos, wood, and other natural elements to reduce the use of concrete to develop the summit venue," deputy minister Wetipo said while visiting the Suwung Estuary Dam, South Denpasar sub-district, Denpasar city, Bali.

He informed that infrastructure development in Bali has been accelerated since early January 2022.

The project is targeted to be completed in September 2022, so the province will be ready to showcase mangroves conservation by October 2022, he said.

"The revitalization of the Ngurah Rai Mangrove Public Forest in the Nusa Dua Estuary Reservoir includes the construction of an entrance gate, drop-off areas, viewing towers, pedestrians, seedling areas, and parking areas," Wetipo disclosed.

He said he hopes that concrete actions initiated by the Mangrove Clean Up Movement would encourage more sustainable attempts to preserve nature.

“Hence, there are a lot of tasks for the ministry’s human settlement as well as highways and roads directorate generals. We will synergize to complete the revitalization before the G20 summit," he added.

As G20 President, Indonesia is seeking to promote sustainable development, mitigate climate change impacts, and restore the environment.
