"Along with the increasing consumption per capita of national biscuits and the growing trend of the world biscuit market, we believe that the Indonesian biscuit industry will continue to grow and develop in the future," he explained during a virtual press conference on Tuesday.
According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), domestic biscuit consumption reached 2.28 kg per capita per year in 2020. The figure showed a positive growth of 17 percent compared to 2016, when it was pegged at 1.94 kg per capita per year, he noted.
Meanwhile, data from Agri Exchange showed that the global biscuit market grew 4.6 percent per year from 2017 to 2021, Ardika said. The value of the global biscuit market is predicted to reach US$135 billion by 2023, he added.
Meanwhile, the export value of Indonesian biscuits has increased year by year, he noted. According to data from BPS, Indonesia exported biscuits worth US$562 million in 2017 and the value of biscuit exports increased to US$704 million in 2021, he added.
Speaking about the food and beverage sub-sector, he said that the sub-sector managed to grow by 2.54 percent in 2021, in line with the national gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 3.69 percent despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

The national industry's optimism is evident from the purchasing managers' index (PMI) released by IHS Markit, he said.
In January, IHS Markit reported that the PMI of Indonesia's manufacturing industry improved to 53.7 from 53.5 the previous month, he noted. This indicates that the Indonesian manufacturing industry was in an expansion mode in 2021, he added.
"Based on these data, we must be optimistic about the development of the manufacturing industry, which will continue to improve in the future," Ardika forecast.
