The government also encourages the press community to synergise and fight for the people's interests and Indonesia's progressJakarta (ANTARA) - The Presidential Staff Office's (KSP's) Deputy IV Juri Ardianto opined that the press community has a major influence in shaping Indonesia's future.
Ardianto also reiterated the government's commitment to supporting the development of digital journalism amid the stream of information and improvement in the people's digital literacy, given Indonesia's democratic nature.
"The press has a significant role to play in shaping Indonesia's future. The government also encourages the press community to synergise and fight for the people's interests and Indonesia's progress," Ardianto noted in his statement to commemorate National Press Day here on Wednesday.
The government also lauded members of the press community that raised environmental issues for the 2022 National Press Day commemoration, he remarked.

"This is consistent with the government's commitment to bolstering Indonesia's position as a global example and green catalyst through the G20 Presidency," Ardianto remarked.
The deputy highlighted that the current National Press Day commemoration, centred in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, would also raise the theme of journalists' future amid the rapid communication and media technology development.
He opined that changes to the media ecology affected the news substance and accuracy, exemplified by the prevalence of sensational clickbait news that sacrificed the quality and ethics of journalism for visits and clicks.

"This will be one of our future challenges, as we need to augment the journalist's profession and the press amid the digital disruption," the deputy emphasized.
Ardianto also lauded the press community for its role in supporting government programs, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"The government still has many programs that need support from the press community, such as Indonesia's G20 Presidency, the national economic recovery, and the development of a new capital. The government is optimistic that the press would support those programmes by disseminating positive narratives," he remarked.
