Manado (ANTARA) - Indonesia's G20 Presidency is expected to improve the capacity of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), economic observer from Sam Ratulangi University (Unsrat), Dr. Joy Tulung, has said.

"The government must give MSMEs a role in the G20 Presidency, as their (G20) activities are carried out in a number of areas in North Sulawesi, and they are not only held in one location," Tulung remarked here on Tuesday.

He said the role of MSMEs is very significant, but their product quality and human resources issues must also be addressed.

"I really hope that these MSMEs will be positively affected if they are properly empowered," he added.

The G20 is an opportunity for Indonesia to raise a number of priority agendas that affect developing countries, he said.

The government also needs to prioritize collaboration, in accordance with the theme of this year's G20 event, "Recover Together, Recover Stronger," he added.

The challenges to small and medium enterprises penetrating the international market pertain to regulation and financing, technology, and marketing, Tulung said. Hence, SMEs are a priority and an important sector that need to be discussed at the G20 forum, he added.

The G20 event, he said, is expected to produce policies that are not only beneficial for large companies, but also for SMEs, such as tariff reductions for entering G20 countries.
