Jakarta (ANTARA) - The number of daily COVID-19 cases in Indonesia has shown a downward trend over the past week, Health Ministry spokesperson Siti Nadia Tarmizi said at a virtual event streamed on YouTube on Tuesday.

"Within the past week, we have started to see a daily confirmed case trend that shows a national decline from the highest number of cases of 64,7198 on Wednesday (February 16, 2022),” she noted.

As of Monday, the number of daily cases in Indonesia has dropped to around 34 thousand, she informed.

The figure is significantly below the daily peak of 56,757 cases recorded during the Delta surge in July–August last year, she highlighted.

Further, the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has also shown a decline, Tarmizi said.

Nationally, the number of patients in isolation and ICU facilities has reached 36,488, or equivalent to 38 percent of total patients, she added.

"The number of patients in treatment is also far below from the situation during the Delta wave in July–August 2021 that reached 93,256 patients," she noted.

The decline in the confirmed case count has been followed by a downward trend in the positivity rate, or the ratio of the number of COVID-19 cases and the number of tests, she informed.

"Currently, the figure is at 17.7 percent," she said.

Based on positivity rate reports from regions, the positivity rate in Jakarta has declined from 23.8 percent during the February 8–14 period to 18.5 percent during the February 15–21 period, she informed.

The number of daily confirmed cases has dropped from 11,404 to 8,792 during the same period, Tarmizi said.

Bali has also recorded a drop in positivity rate from 22.3 percent to 14.8 percent, with daily cases declining from 2,039 to 1,191 in the past week, she added.

A similar situation has been reported by several regions in Java and Bali for the February 13–19 period along with a decline in the positivity rate, she added.

In Banten, the positivity rate has dropped from 27.4 percent to 23.1 percent, West Java from 23.7 percent to 22.8 percent, Central Java from 27.6 percent to 26.5 percent, and East Java from 18 percent to 17 percent, the spokesperson said.
