Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a zakat foundation, Rumah Zakat, to support family development programs and accelerate stunting reduction.

"Considering the amount of available time, we have less than three years to oversee the convergence of programs or activities to meet the set stunting reduction target that can reach targeted groups, such as teenagers, prospective brides, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and toddlers" Head of BKKBN Hasto Wardoyo noted in a written statement received here on Friday.

Wardoyo remarked that the stunting eradication efforts must be supported by adequate resources, so that each intervention can be ensured to reach families that are at risk of stunting.

In order to reach all families, the BKKBN is required to collaborate with all parties in the society, including by collaborating with the Rumah Zakat Foundation.

The collaboration is expected to develop the Quality Family Planning Village (Kampung KB) program through one of the new activities: the Healthy Kitchen to Overcome Stunting (Dashat).

"Rumah Zakat has synergized in the efforts to prevent stunting with villages, sub-district, and community health centers in several provinces, including making a Nutrition Kitchen and Nutrition Garden initiated by Rumah Zakat volunteers," he expounded.

Moreover, the collaboration is expected to help MSMEs to become independent in an effort to realize a just and prosperous society that has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Furthermore, the cooperation is projected to assist MSME players, who are part of the businesses, to increase the income of the acceptor families (UPPKA) group.

Rumah Zakat CEO Nur Efendi remarked that collaboration across sectors and related ministries coupled with the support of donors is the key to success for programs that are aimed to boost the people's welfare in Indonesia.

"We are able to provide more than 42 million beneficiaries in 34 provinces in Indonesia, with funds sourced from as many as 789 thousand donors, as well as presenting 1,695 empowered villages, 20 winning schools, and nine primary clinics," he remarked.
