Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo's (Jokowi's) instruction on police discipline during the 2022 Joint Military-Police Leadership meeting will serve as a guide to mitigating the spread of radical thoughts, the Police's Public Relations Division head stated.

"The president's instruction is a guide to bring about improvements that he has instructed for the common good and to mitigate the spread of radical thoughts," the division head Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo stated in Jakarta on Wednesday.

During the leadership meeting, Jokowi instructed military and police officers to improve discipline for themselves and their families to prevent radical thoughts from being disseminated among officers and their families, he affirmed.

Prasetyo confirmed that the police will optimize the Profession and Security Division to monitor the police officers' discipline and take action against violations committed by officers.

"The division will take firm actions against officers, who violate (discipline)," he stated.

Apart from enhancing the supervision process, the police will also bolster the quality of human resources in terms of police officers and their family members, the division head noted.

Earlier, during the joint military-police leadership meeting on Tuesday (Mar 1), President Jokowi urged the Indonesian military and police officers to refrain from “questioning and meddling” in democratic discourses, as that might compromise on discipline.

The president also called on military and police officers to increase discipline, which is disparate from civilian discipline.

"Military and police officers should not meddle in democratic discourses. We need to improve discipline on this issue to ensure residents can see that we are moving to enhance national discipline," the president stated.

Military and police discipline not only applies to officers but also to their family members, he affirmed.

"This discipline not only applies to a mother or father who works (in the military or the police) but also extends to (family members at their) home. Wives of officers must have equal discipline as their husbands. They must not carelessly invite any cleric they want in the name of democracy," the president emphasized.
