Jakarta (ANTARA) - Several government officials that have simultaneously filed their annual tax returns in Jakarta on Tuesday will set an example for residents to comply with their taxation responsibilities, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati affirmed.

"This will be a great symbol that leaders of government institutions, vital in ensuring safety and security of Indonesians, are also compliant with their obligation to report their annual tax returns," Indrawati stated during the simultaneous tax return filing event in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Government officials that filed their tax returns during the event comprised Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister of Maritime and Investment Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister of Political, Law, and Human Rights Mahfud MD, Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy, and Chief of the Indonesian Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

Indrawati noted that March 31, 2022, will be the deadline for personal taxpayers to file their tax returns while recommending them to report their annual tax returns through the online e-filing system that would be convenient for them.

"Residents must not delay (in reporting their tax returns) until the final day and the final hour (before the deadline) that may overwhelm the teams that are working to accept the annual tax returns," the finance minister remarked.

Indrawati expressed gratitude to government ministers that had filed their tax returns during the event far earlier than the deadline that ensured the e-filing system could promptly process their tax returns with no disruption.

The minister then expressed optimism that exemplary behaviour demonstrated by government officials will motivate residents to file their tax returns earlier to maintain public confidence in the government.

"Managing the national economy and finance amid the COVID-19 pandemic is a highly challenging duty that requires extreme prudence," Indrawati emphasized.
