"It is a historical moment for Indonesia to utilize a strategic position to navigate the direction of the nation's digital economic landscape development," Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate said.
While opening the DEWG event here on Tuesday, he noted that the digital transformation agenda, which has also become one of the issues for Indonesia's G20 Presidency, is covered by three DEWG priority issues.
The first issue concerns post COVID-19 recovery and connectivity.
For this, Indonesia has invited G20 member countries to discuss the importance of digital connectivity in supporting the economy, especially for post-COVID-19 pandemic recovery.
The second concerns digital skills and literacy, specifically, bolstering digital capability and digital technology utilization.
Indonesia has created the G20 Toolkit for Measuring Digital Skills and Literacy for the measurement of digital skills and literacy in G20 member countries.
"We expect that member countries can share their experience so that there is one collective understanding to serve as a standard and a model for use to use at the global stage," Plate explained.
The third issue—cross-border data flow—relates to agreement on the four principles of data management: lawfulness, fairness, transparency, and reciprocity.

The issue of cross-border data flow is also important for data interoperability, whether within a nation's or between nations' jurisdictions.
The minister said that the three issues are the main pre-requirements for optimizing digital-based transformation, including the digital economy.
Indonesia’s digital economy has continued to develop. In 2021, the gross national product contribution of the digital economy reached US$70 billion.
Indonesia's digital economy is projected to reach US$315.5 billion by 2030.
The ministry has estimated that there are 4.9 billion Internet users in the world, while Indonesia has 204 million users.
