Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Jakarta provincial government is promoting Seribu Islands district as a tourism destination at the Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia, which is being held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Street Circuit, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The racing event is being held from March 18–20, 2022.

In a written statement issued here on Saturday, Head of the Jakarta Tourism and Creative Economy Office Andhika Permata said that the provincial office is cooperating with several travel agents to offer Seribu Islands tour packages at the Mandalika Experience Expo, which is being held at the circuit.

One of the 10 ‘New Balis,’ Seribu Islands is a hidden marine paradise whose beauty is not inferior to other tourism destinations, he noted.

Seribu Islands also has great potential with a lot of topographical similarities with other destinations in Indonesia, such as Raja Ampat in West Papua Province or Mandalika in NTB Province, he said.

There are a lot of attractions in Seribu Islands, such as mangrove forests, turtle and shark conservation areas, snorkeling spots, as well as cultural heritage sites.

At the cultural sites, visitors can swim, dive, snorkel, ride banana boats, ride jet skis, as well as go kayaking while observing various marine biota.

"We are preparing tourism packages that can accommodate people who want to work while going on vacation and enjoying the natural beauty of Seribu Islands. Thus, people do not need to go far (to other regions for a vacation)," he said.

Seribu Islands has 113 islands comprising11 inhabited islands, seven resort islands, and a number of conservation islands.
