Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is buoyant that natural resource downstreaming would gradually increase from time to time, thereby creating several jobs and bolstering the domestic economic foundation.

“Downstreaming will step by step increase and continue to increase and will drive the economy and create jobs in the country,” President Jokowi noted in his speech at the 2022 CNBC Indonesia Economic Outlook held virtually here on Tuesday.

Indonesia has conducted downstreaming on a large scale recently, according to the president.

Downstreaming was among the government’s efforts to help increase the economic value and has also become the economic foundation that is getting stronger from year to year, Jokowi explained.

“We stop our raw material exports and boost downstreaming in the country,” he remarked.

President Jokowi drew attention to four economic foundations apart from downstreaming that perform better in 2022.

The second economic foundation is Indonesia’s success in COVID-19 pandemic handling, thereby offering opportunities to drive economic activities, the president remarked.

Indonesia continues to drive the economic engines despite the COVID-19 pandemic that hit hard from 2020 to 2021.

“One of the success points is we never impose a lockdown that allowed us to accelerate the economy in 2022,” he remarked.

The third is the start of economic structural reform that is apparent from Law No.11 of 2020 on Job Creation (Omnibus Law) ratified by the government and House of Representatives.

“Issuing the Omnibus Law to simplify bureaucracy for investment is another big foundation that we start to witness and enjoy this year,” the president noted.

The fourth is digital economy development in Indonesia that is expanding more and is conducive to support the ecosystem of the digital community, Jokowi stated.

“The digital economic foundation, as the new economic base, was strong enough last year. Decacorn has been born and unicorn has been rising in the country,” he added.

With such foundations, President Jokowi expressed optimism that Indonesia would accelerate its economic recovery this year.
