Jakarta (ANTARA) - Quality human resources who are skilled in agricultural technology, trade, and industry can help the Earth prosper, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin has said.

Amin made the remarks at the launch of the Agricultural Corporatization Pilot Project in Supporting the Pesantren-Based Halal Value Chain Ecosystem at Al Ittifaq Islamic Boarding School (Pesantren), Bandung district, West Java on Tuesday.

"The key is quality human resources who have (the skills in) agricultural technology, trade, industry, and so on," the Vice President remarked.

Training is also necessary for creating great human resources, he added.

Furthermore, Amin emphasized that the issue of prospering the Earth and developing the agricultural economy is also part of sharia and Islamic worship.

Hence, he said that Islamic boarding schools have a very big role in advancing the economy. In accordance with their three functions listed in the law, pesantren function as educational and da'wah institutions, as well as economic empowerment places of the community.

"I particularly support the pesantren-based economic empowerment programs as one of the efforts to prosper the community. Santris (pesantren students) who study religion can take an active role in economic empowerment, starting from the community around pesantren, and then the further ones," Amin said.

The strong influence of Islamic boarding schools in the community makes them a conducive place to encourage economic transformation in the community effectively, he added.

Amin also lauded the efforts made by the Al Ittifaq boarding school in carrying out the mandate to prosper the Earth through its cooperative, Alif Mart, which currently enriches 270 farmers from three districts.

"This is something I appreciate. In fact, there is also the processing of damaged vegetables into animal feed," he remarked.
