Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - The Batam Development Authority (BP Batam) received a visit from the Director of Central Financial Corporation at the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN, Yoon Byungwon, to discuss cooperation in infrastructure development.

"We received a visit from the Korean delegation to follow up on (the realization of the project) under a public-private partnership scheme at Hang Nadim Airport in Batam," member of BP Batam strategic policy section Enoh Suharto Pronoto said on Friday.

BP Batam warmly welcomed the visit, particularly because the Mission of the Republic of Korea to ASEAN has contributed to the creation of the ASEAN Community, in accordance with ASEAN’s 2025 vision, he added.

To accelerate infrastructure development in Batam, cooperation with and investment from developed nations is needed, he said.

"The acceleration (of infrastructure development is needed to maintain Batam’s economic growth and (support) BP Batam’s steps to develop infrastructure and public facilities in Batam in cooperation (with other parties)," he added.

Meanwhile, chief of BP Batam public relations, promotion, and protocol bureau, Ariastuty Sirait, said the Korean delegation offered funding assistance and financial and non-financial support to develop public facilities and strategic infrastructure projects in Batam.

"They are also interested in (developing) renewable energy through the development of the green city in Batam," she said.

BP Batam chief Muhammad Rudi has urged BP Batam to prioritize infrastructure development as part of efforts to boost the city’s economic growth, she added.

"As per the BP Batam chief’s directive, (BP Batam) will implement strategic and sustainable development to improve the competitive edge of Batam city as an investment destination," she said.
