Jakarta (ANTARA) - People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) deputy speaker Lestari Moerdijat assessed that villages are one of the keys to the success of the nation's economic growth.

“Thus, stakeholders and the community must seriously pay attention to the development in villages,” Moerdijat noted in her statement here on Thursday.

According to the Statistics Indonesia (BPS) record, there are at least 83,843 villages in Indonesia.

Moerdijat noted that if stakeholders can improve the welfare of villages in Indonesia, the impact will be significant for the country's welfare as well.

The deputy speaker expressed hope that village funds, aimed at improving the villages’ welfare, would be utilized optimally by the village heads.

Moerdijat assessed that the allocation of operational funds for village apparatus is expected to accelerate economic growth in villages that will subsequently have positive impacts on the national economy.

“I am thankful that the government agreed to allocate three percent of the village funds for the operational funds of village apparatus. It is hoped that with the policy, the utilization of village funds for economic growth in villages can be accelerated,” she remarked.

Moerdijat conveyed the statement to address the government’s decision to fulfil village heads’ requests regarding the allocation of village operational funds from village funds.

Earlier, in January 2022, dozens of village heads from Central Java Province had visited Moerdijat's official residence.

The village heads highlighted their complaints regarding the problems in realizing several programs without the availability of operational funds.

Due to the importance of development in villages, the MPR deputy speaker noted that efforts to accelerate growth in villages must be made immediately, so that villages in the country can revive soon.
