"The government has the task of formulating technical policies, strengthening creativity, and creating talent. The government also focuses on the value chain of the creative economy, specifically creation, production, distribution, consumption, and product storage or documentation," Abdullah stated during an online discussion, quoted on Thursday.
To this end, Abdullah noted that Kemenparekraf also offered various forms of assistance to support the potential and enthusiasm of these filmmakers through various incentives.
Last year, Abdullah had noted that the government, through the National Economic Recovery (PEN) Program, helped provide stimulus for national films by distributing government assistance.
"There are production, promotion, and pre-production schemes. This year, the plan will be resumed, but it is still in the process of being drafted and will still be submitted to the Ministry of Finance," he noted.
The PEN program is viewed as having received positive response wherein more than 50 filmmakers have benefited from PEN 2021, with budget absorption totaling Rp116.8 billion.
Furthermore, government assistance is also provided to the film and photography community through production assistance.
"This partnership serves a different purpose. If PEN is intended for widescreen films that are screened in theaters and multi platforms, then other government assistance is aimed at community-based short films," Abdullah explained.
"We help for everything, right from feature films for cinemas and communities, films that usually go to festivals and are possible to be screened in public spaces. We are striving to help this ecosystem, and the government is present in production and creation," he noted.
