Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned shipping company PT Pelni signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with state port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) for improving and developing its maritime logistics business.

The signing of the MoU titled "State-Owned Enterprises' (SOEs') Logistics Synergy" was conducted by President Director of PT Pelni, Tri Andayani, and President Director of PT Pelindo, Arif Suhartono, here on Friday.

"The MoU signing is the initial step in providing optimal, effective, and efficient logistics services. Hence, we need the full support of Pelindo to make this happen," the Pelni president director remarked.

Andayani affirmed that Pelni, as a maritime shipping and logistics company, continues to develop and one of its strategies is to shift the business segment of passengers to 45 percent and logistics to 55 percent.

She acknowledged that it was a challenge for Pelni to continue to innovate and intensify cooperation with several parties in building its logistics business, including with Pelindo.

"To support the company's logistics business, Pelni needs facilities that can support the smooth distribution of goods. Pelindo, as a company that manages the port, has assets that can support it, such as loading and unloading equipment, land or shifting cranes, and depots," she pointed out.

The cooperation plan encompasses utilization and development of facilities and infrastructure, assets optimization, training of maritime logistics human resources, and other potentials agreed upon by both parties.

"In future, Pelni and Pelindo will work together to create integrated logistics services that are digital. In addition, we will conduct benchmarks related to human resources, organizational restructuring, and information digitalization on container depots," she explained.

Andayani stated that the efforts for building collaboration in the field of maritime logistics can offer good value to SOEs.

"We hope that this collaboration would ease the flow of logistics distribution throughout Indonesia. The goal is to build efficiency in logistics distribution, so that it can support the acceleration of economic recovery post-COVID-19 pandemic," she said.
