Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - The government of Tangerang District, Banten Province, strengthened the community-level COVID-19 task forces as part of the precautionary measures against COVID-19 transmission during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

"We have COVID-19 task forces at the community units. Thus, we will utilize them in the efforts to prevent COVID-19 transmission during Ramadan," Tangerang District Head Ahmed Zaki Iskandar stated here on Friday.

Iskandar conveyed the statement after holding a coordination meeting with the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) regarding security during Ramadan.

The district head affirmed that currently, the district government was coordinating with sub-district and village heads to increase alertness in handling COVID-19 transmission.

"So far, the community has also understood to comply with health protocols, but we continue to urge them to implement health protocols," he remarked.

According to Iskandar, the Tangerang District Government has prepared several guidelines related to community activities during Ramadan until the upcoming Eid al-Fitr in order to be safe from virus transmission.

One of the guidelines pertain to prohibiting residents from conducting activities that can potentially lead to crowding and disrupt public security and order, he stated.

"Regarding the issue of security and public order during Ramadan, both the National Police (Polri) and the Indonesian Military (TNI) have discussed and are ready to offer security," he noted.

The district head remarked that in the guidelines, several restrictions on community activities had been relaxed, for instance, congregational tarawih prayer can be held without social distancing by continuing to implement COVID-19 health protocols.

However, Iskandar highlighted that regions with high number of COVID-19 cases would still implement social distancing during prayers.

He encouraged residents to comply with health protocols during Ramadan in a bid to anticipate the spread of COVID-19.

"We appeal to residents to comply with the health protocols even during Ramadan worship activities," he remarked.
