The third JFHTF meeting is an important step for all member countries in drafting the financing strategies for prevention, preparedness, and response to the pandemic or PPR
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Finance and Health ministries resumed the third G20 Joint Finance and Health Task Force (JFHTF) virtual meeting on Friday (April 1, 2022).

At the opening of the meeting, JFHTF co-chair Wempi Saputra invited G20 member countries to draw up a financing action plan for Pandemic Preparedness and Response (PPR).

"The third JFHTF meeting is an important step for all member countries in drafting the financing strategies for prevention, preparedness, and response to the pandemic or PPR," Saputra said in a press release issued here on Saturday.

The results of JFHTF's third meeting will act as inputs for the G20 finance and health ministers, as well as become the subject of discussion at the second G20 Finance Ministers and Central Banks Governors (FMCBG) meeting in April 2022.

"The third meeting of JFHTF should be able to provide ministers with the feedback they need for drawing up new financial mechanisms, as well as how to implement them," Saputra explained.

Meanwhile, JFHTF co-chair Kunta Wibawa chaired a meeting to discuss reports from the World Bank and World Health Organization (WHO) on the PPR financing gap and the modalities gap in building financial facilities among countries.

"The meeting should be able to prepare guidelines for health and finance ministers in (drafting) a new financial mechanism and its structural preferences and how we can all move forward together," Wibawa stated.

In the third meeting, G20 members also launched "COVID-19 Countermeasures" and a global action plan "One Health,” and agreed to urgently address the huge gap in the handling of health crises among countries.

G20 members also expressed support for the establishment of new financial mechanisms that will provide a dedicated and sustainable source of funding for PPR. The new funding scheme will also complement the existing financing solution landscape.

"JFHTF will continue to work on completing the modalities that will be reported to the G20 finance and health ministers," Wibawa said.

The JFHFT under the G20 and the JFHTF secretariat plays an important role in supporting health and financial coordination to realize PPR, which is in line with international health regulations.
