Jakarta (ANTARA) - With Saudi Arabia deciding to reopen services for foreign hajj pilgrims for 1443 Hijri/2022, the Indonesian government will soon conclude discussions with the House of Representatives (DPR) to set the hajj pilgrimage cost.

"We will act soon to make preparations. We will also soon finalize the amount of hajj pilgrimage cost, along with DPR Commission VIII,” Director General of Hajj and Umrah at the Religious Affairs Ministry Hilman Latief informed in a written statement released by the ministry here on Saturday.

During a hearing with DPR Commission VIII on March 16, 2022, Latief had proposed that the 2022 hajj pilgrimage cost be set at Rp42,542,369.

He said the amount was adjusted to the Saudi government's policy revoking restrictions on public mobility, which were aimed at stemming COVID-19 transmission.

The government does not have much time to serve hajj pilgrims while in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, Latief added.

Therefore, he said, the Religious Affairs Ministry will work quickly to complete preparations for hajj pilgrimage, including deciding on residents who can perform hajj, in accordance with the conditions set by the Saudi government.
