To enhance the halal industry sector, sophisticated research conducted by advanced human resources and (appropriate) infrastructures are necessaryJakarta (ANTARA) - The National Research and Innovation Agency's (BRIN's) research facilities are expected to boost the development of domestic halal products, including increasing their value and competitiveness, according to BRIN Head Laksana Tri Handoko.
"We understand that developing research and innovation for halal products will be strategic, not only because of the large Muslim population but also due to the increase in the demand for halal products," Handoko stated while officiating BRIN's food research facility observed here on Friday.
The agency head affirmed that Indonesia must boost its halal industry to play an active role in the global halal product market.
"To enhance the halal industry sector, sophisticated research conducted by advanced human resources and (appropriate) infrastructures are necessary," he noted.
BRIN's laboratories in Cibinong, West Java, Serpong, Banten, and Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta, have been equipped with sophisticated research instruments to support halal food product research, Handoko remarked.
The agency head remarked that BRIN was currently continuing to enhance the capability of human resources in the research sector and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to support the research and innovation of domestic halal products.
Industry actors and entrepreneurs, particularly those of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), could utilize halal products' research results to innovate with product differentiation and increase the product value, the agency head remarked.
Earlier, Vice President Ma'ruf Amin had emphasized that the budget for education and research must be increased in order to make Indonesia a competitive nation as well as to improve the country's innovation ranking globally.
"The budget for education and research must be increased, the quantity and quality of researchers must be increased, and research infrastructure and facilities must be improved," Amin stressed.
He pointed out that the most competitive countries are those that invest in research and development to make innovations.
